The St. Louis Cardinals are a team that seems to be competitive every year.
They are a well-run organization that does a good job of building the best roster possible.
Many people thought the Cardinals would be World Series contenders this year.
But, that could not have been further from the truth.
From the first month of the season to the last the Cardinals never played up to their potential.
All of that has led to them missing out on the postseason.
According to FOX Sports: MLB, the Cardinals have officially been eliminated from playoff contention.

This will be the first time in the last five seasons that the Cardinals will not be in the postseason.
Seeing their fall from grace has been astonishing.
They have struggled in all facets of the game this year.
You can bet the front office will be ready to make significant changes in the offseason.
This is not a fanbase that takes well to losing.
One change many people expected the Cardinals to make is at manager.
Oli Marmol has not gotten the job done this season, and many Cardinals fans are calling for him to be fired.
But Cardinals President John Mozeliak has made it clear Marmol will return next year.
The Cardinals still have good veterans in place and a few rookies that broke through this season.
Anything short of a playoff berth next season will most likely see Marmol out the door.
The Cardinals are a franchise with a rich history of winning, and they were unable to do that this season.
