The Atlanta Braves have been Major League Baseball’s best team this season.
After Thursday’s wild win over the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium, they own a record of 88-45, which is the best in all of baseball.
Not only that, but the Braves also inched closer to an elite mark.
Every year since 2018, the Braves have won the National League East.
This run includes a World Series title in 2021.
And the run is very likely to be extended this year.
With their win over the Dodgers on Thursday night, the team inched closer to an elite mark.
According to Bob Nightengale, the Braves now have a magic number of just 10 to clinch a spot in the postseason.
Atlanta's magic number to clinch a postseason berth:
10— Bob Nightengale (@BNightengale) September 1, 2023
Last year, the Braves won 101 games and secured their fifth consecutive NL East title.
However, they were eliminated by the eventual National League champion Philadelphia Phillies in the NLDS.
This year, they hold a double-digit lead over the defending NL champs in the NL East.
Atlanta is up 14 games on the Phillies with one month remaining on the schedule.
But they’re finally closing in on clinching a spot in this year’s postseason.
In 2022, they were the second seed in the National League and were tied for the third-best record in baseball with the New York Mets.
At this point, the Braves are essentially a lock for the postseason.
They have been a powerhouse in the National League since 2018 and don’t appear to be going away anytime soon.
They’ll be a dangerous team to face in the postseason.
