The Los Angeles Angels have been consistently bad ever since the trade deadline passed.
Since August 1, LA is 3-11, and that has affected all the plans and dreams they had.
That performance is certainly puzzling, since they brought in some talented players instead of selling.
They are 59-62 and still have a small chance of making the playoffs, but they keep losing games and look like a mediocre team.
Their recent road trip has been brutal from just about every standpoint.
“The Angels have been outscored 42-11 through the first five games of their road trip,” Angels insider Sam Blum tweeted.

They have a 1-4 record in those five games against direct AL West rivals, the Houston Astros and the Texas Rangers.
Despite having the most talented player in the history of the game in Shohei Ohtani, the Angels appear likely to fail again: they haven’t made the playoffs since 2014, so the 2021 AL MVP doesn’t know what it’s like to experience the postseason atmosphere.
The Angels missed a golden chance to trade Ohtani before the deadline, a decision that required guts.
In the end, they did well to shore up their roster for one last playoff push, but things just haven’t gone their way.
It’s sad because they are extremely likely to lose Ohtani to free agency after the World Series, and all that he will leave them is a draft pick.
Maybe it’s too early to give up, but we have seen this movie many times and it always has a similar ending: the Angels missing the playoffs.
