The Tampa Bay Buccaneers already had one of the toughest wide receiver duos in all of football.
That didn’t seem to be enough for them, so they doubled down on that unit by adding rookies Tez Johnson and Emeka Egbuka to the mix.
That’s why, when asked about their WR room, Johnson gushed about their versatility and ability to do a little bit of everything:
“We’re loaded,” Johnson said of the Bucs’ wide receiver room. “Everybody can run routes, everybody can block, everyone is smart. We feed off of that. Talent-wise, it’s there. Now, how can that connection and that chemistry build together throughout the season? We know we’ve got talent, but we’ve got to go out there and be the best team every Sunday.”
The Buccaneers are making sure to be competitive this season while also getting ready for the future.
Mike Evans and Chris Godwin are still two of the most underrated pass-catchers in the game, but they’re not getting any younger, so it makes perfect sense to brace themselves for what’s to come with a big influx of young talent.
More than that, this will also put plenty of pressure on everybody to work hard every single day and be at their best.
Baker Mayfield enters this season as a dark horse candidate for MVP honors.
He’s posted great numbers since he arrived in Florida to fill the void that Tom Brady left when he retired, and he’s finally looking like a former No. 1 pick.
The Buccaneers have been at the top of the division for years now, and while the Atlanta Falcons might pose a big threat to dethrone them, they have the potential to have one of the most explosive offenses in the game.
Even with their third offensive coordinator in as many seasons, this team should do just fine for as long as everybody’s healthy.
