For months, fans speculated whether the Houston Texans would manage to extend Laremy Tunsil’s contract.
Tunsil is undeniably the best left tackle in the National Football League, and as such, he could’ve pursued a new deal somewhere else on a more competitive team.
Instead, he decided to double down on his commitment to the organization, signing a three-year contract extension worth $75 million.
For the second time in his career, Tunsil signed a deal to become the highest-paid offensive lineman in the league.
According to ESPN, his deal included a $30 million signing bonus with $50 million fully guaranteed and up to $10 more million in total guarantees.
Notably, the team rewarded his great play as well as his desire to stay, as owner Cal McNair told NFL insider Aaron Wilson.

He had claimed he wanted to reset the market for offensive linemen just a couple of years after signing a $66 million contract with the Texans.
He’s coming off his third straight Pro Bowl season, also finishing third in All-Pro voting at his position.
The Texans’ offensive line was far from elite, but he allowed just one sack and 17 QB pressures all season long.
Houston will likely use its second-overall pick to land either Bryce Young or C.J. Stroud in the upcoming NFL Draft, so keeping their new franchise cornerstone safe was one of their biggest priorities entering the offseason, which is why they also traded for veteran Shaq Mason.
It might take a while before the Texans are ready to compete, but at least they can count on their veteran star to lead the way.
