During the Houston Texans’ 27-19 loss on Saturday to the Kansas City Chiefs, wide receiver Tank Dell suffered a gruesome injury that was diagnosed as a dislocated kneecap and a torn ACL and will end his season.
It’s a cruel twist of fate shortly before the playoffs for a team that has struggled ever since starting the season 5-1 and being branded as a possible Super Bowl contender.
On Monday, the Texans made an interesting move in the wake of Dell’s injury by signing wide receiver Diontae Johnson, who was just waived by the Baltimore Ravens after he had failed to produce in four games with the Ravens, per Jordan Schultz.

Johnson, a third-round draft pick in 2019, spent his first five seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers before being traded to the Carolina Panthers in March.
After seven games with Carolina, they sent him to the Ravens, who thought they were getting another weapon in their passing game.
In four games with Baltimore, Johnson had a grand total of one reception for six yards.
Dell had a strong rookie season last year with 47 catches for 709 yards and seven touchdowns, and he was a key factor in Houston becoming a surprise team that made the playoffs.
But this season, they had to deal with wide receiver Nico Collins missing five games due to a hamstring injury and star wideout Stefon Diggs tearing his ACL in late October.
Collins, as well as Johnson, will have to step things up in order for Houston to do some damage come playoff time.
