The Kansas City Chiefs moved to 14-1 on Saturday when they took down the Houston Texans 27-19 behind another strong performance from their defense and a workmanlike approach on offense.
KC has the AFC’s No. 1 seed nearly wrapped up, and former New England Patriots legend Tedy Bruschi believes the team made a “season-saving” move recently that has played a big role in getting to 14-1.
On Sunday NFL Countdown, Bruschi praised the Chiefs coaching staff for being so great at solving problems, with the most recent solution being moving Joe Thuney to left tackle, saying, “In the last two games, 47 pass block plays, 41 pass block wins, zero sacks allowed.”

Bruschi mentioned how much more confident Mahomes has looked in the pocket with Thuney at left tackle the past couple of games, as Mahomes isn’t running out of the pocket as much due to having been sacked just once over the last two games.
Now that Mahomes is nursing a high-ankle sprain, which didn’t seem to bother him much in the Texans game, it’s more important than ever that his offensive line protect him.
Mahomes has already been sacked 36 times this season, the first time in his career he has been taken down more than 30 times, so it was obvious for months that the team’s offensive line wasn’t as solid as he had grown accustomed to.
The offense, in general, hasn’t been as explosive as in years past, but Bruschi is right in pointing out that a quiet switch like this could elevate the entire team to new heights.
