For the first time since Steve Kerr took over, the Golden State Warriors failed to beat a Western Conference team in the playoffs.
Their second-round loss to the Los Angeles Lakers also put an end to a streak of 27 consecutive playoff series winning at least one game on the road.
But as hard as that loss was, the Warriors refuse to believe this was the end of the road for them.
They reportedly still have faith in their championship core, and their coach isn’t going anywhere, either.
When asked about his future, Kerr admitted that he’s looking forward to staying with the team for the long run.
Steve Kerr addresses his future. There’s one year left on his deal. He said it’s not yet time to discuss an extension. He wants to keep coaching Warriors long term, but understands realities of business. “Look at your phone every day and see the next Hall of Fame coach fired.” pic.twitter.com/SFigwUm601

However, he did admit that this is a business and it wouldn’t be the first time that a Hall-of-Fame coach is fired after a subpar season, pointing out that he only has one year left in his contract.
The Warriors would be wise to sign him to a contract extension and put this narrative to rest right now, but Kerr believes now is not the time to discuss that.
There’s no denying that Steve Kerr could have at least half a dozen offers sitting on his table at the very second he becomes available, but that’s not what he’s thinking about right now.
He’s established himself as one of the single greatest coaches in terms of playoff and in-game adjustments, and he should get way more credit for the Warriors’ success and dominance over the past decade or so.
