While the NFL is in full swing, the MLB playoffs are down to four teams and the NBA is starting to ramp up, the 2024 WNBA Finals are well underway after the league’s most successful season to date, with the New York Liberty going head-to-head with the Minnesota Lynx.
After an incredible win over the Lynx in Game 3, the Liberty lead the series 2-1, with Sabrina Ionescu to thank for a game-winning 3-pointer.
Ionescu showed some late-game heroics, just like her idol Kobe Bryant used to put on display during his time with the Los Angeles Lakers, as she had no hesitation in draining a deep jumper to give the Liberty the lead with 1.0 seconds left on the clock.
Though she didn’t fill up the stat sheet like teammate Breanna Stewart, who finished the game with a game-high 30 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks, Ionescu’s shot was all anyone could talk about after the 80-77 victory.
She said the best call she received came from Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry.
“I would say Steph Curry left me a really funny voice memo of him just like screaming into the phone, and that was funny because we have a great relationship, and he’s been a big mentor of mine,” Ionescu said on “SportsCenter.”

Ionescu has the right person in her corner as she tries to win her first WNBA title, as Curry has plenty of experience in the championship department after capturing four NBA titles with the Warriors.
The Liberty will try to close out the best-of-5 series in Minnesota, or head back to New York in hopes of getting it done in a winner-take-all Game 5.
