There are many reasons why LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers might play for Team USA in next year’s Olympics.
Maybe he does it for patriotism, maybe he does it to play with some of his close friends.
Or maybe he does it so he can compete against a very vocal rival.
Stephen A. Smith suggested that James might have been inspired to come back to the team because Dillon Brooks of Team Canada did so well in the FIBA Basketball World Cup.

Brooks was, of course, one of James’ biggest critics in the recent postseason.
He was a player for the Memphis Grizzlies at the time and made no secret of his desire to play against James and the Lakers in the opening round of the playoffs.
He called James old and suggested that his team would easily move past the Lakers.
When the time came, that didn’t happen and LA sent Memphis home in the first round.
James was quiet about the entire situation as it was unfolding but after the series had concluded, he made it clear that he wasn’t pleased by Brooks’ words and was happy to help him pack his bags.
Brooks had a good run in the World Cup but his best game was the last one against the Americans.
During that game, Brooks posted an impressive 39 points and led his team to the bronze medal.
Did James watch that game from home and decide that he was going to settle the score next summer?
Whatever the reason, the inclusion of James in the Olympics next summer would be massive and American fans are hoping they get to see him suit up in red, white, and blue one more time.
