Daryl Morey went to great lengths to make sure the Philadelphia 76ers had enough depth this season.
They had one of the best offseasons in recent history, making moves, getting James Harden to take a pay cut, and even signing P.J. Tucker.
That’s why, when talking about the team with the best starting lineup in the Association, ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith didn’t hesitate to give them the nod, even ahead of the Boston Celtics:
“The Philadelphia 76ers might be that team,” Smith said. “Obviously, (Jayson) Tatum and Jaylen Brown — you know, I mean, we all know Boston has been sensational for the most part. Joel Embiid in Philly, with Tobias Harris, with (Tyrese) Maxey back, with (James) Harden? I can’t ignore that at all now. I gotta say Philly because of Embiid, Harden, and Maxey.”

Of course, the Sixers have no shortage of talent, but that hasn’t always translated into wins.
Once again, some speculate that this could be Doc Rivers‘ final year in charge of the organization after several underperformances in the postseason.
Also, the Celtics have been — by far — the most consistent side in the Eastern Conference throughout the season, and they have an even deeper roster.
The Sixers have everything they need to finally get over the hump, including a perennial MVP and DPOY candidate in Joel Embiid.
So, there’s no more room for excuses this time around.
They need to get the job done, or they could wind up blowing the roster up again if Harden leaves in the off-season.
