The San Antonio Spurs are just hours away from getting Victor Wembanyama, who’s got the potential to be one of the greatest players in the history of professional basketball.
However, as unique and mesmerizing as his skills are, Stephen A. Smith is through with him already.
That’s why he recently claimed that he’s thankful about the fact that the NBA Draft will be over already, so people will finally stop talking and raving about him, as it’ll be time for him to actually prove himself.
Smith says that even though he doesn’t think or suspect that Wembanyama will be a bust or a scrub, he’s worried about his thin frame when going against NBA competition and the “big boys.”

He says he reminds him of the likes of Shawn Bradley or Manute Bol, citing that Kevin Durant has been the lone exception to that group of lanky players, and even KD has had his fair share of injuries lately.
Smith says that he’s excited about the fact that Wembanyama landed in San Antonio and claimed to wish nothing but the best for him, but it feels like he’s not buying all the hype.
Instead, he talked highly of Scoot Henderson, who he said “has a feeling about him,” adding that the Portland Trail Blazers might feel comfortable about moving Damian Lillard if they’re able to get him in tonight’s NBA Draft.
For now, we’ll have to wait and see, but Wembanyama might have plenty of doubters to prove wrong.
