The Brooklyn Nets need to hit the rebuild button and pretend the past three years never happened.
Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving turned them into the league’s laughing stock, going from alleged contender to a reality show.
So, now that Kyrie is finally out and is someone else’s problem now, some around the league are speculating whether Durant will have the same fate.
And according to ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith, the former Finals MVP is on the verge of being moved, with the Boston Celtics working on a package around Jaylen Brown:
“I’m hearing that [Kevin Durant is] on the verge of potentially being moved,” Smith said on First Take. “Obviously, we’ve all been speculating that he may be moved. I’m hearing Boston is making some calls. Keep your eye on that, Jaylen Brown.”

This doesn’t strike as a surprise at all, as the same rumor surfaced in the off-season when Durant asked to be traded before his sitdown with team owner Joe Tsai.
However, Brad Stevens shut down that story right away, stating that the team is still sold on Brown.
The Celtics are fresh off a trip to the NBA Finals and have been the best team in the Eastern Conference this season.
Brown and Jayson Tatum are one of the league’s most prominent duos, not to mention he’s younger and more durable at this point in his career than the aging Durant.
Notably, Brown was actually drafted with one of the picks the Nets sent Boston in that infamous blockbuster deal that got them Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett, so this would be somewhat of a homecoming for Jaylen.
But whether the Celtics will want to jeopardize their future on an aging player with a history of insubordination remains to be seen.
