When he first made it to the league, it seemed like Tyler Herro was an NBA star in the making.
He had the skills and the demeanor of a guy who could be a perennial All-Star and one of the faces of the league, and being drafted into the Miami Heat culture and system made people think that he could turn out to be great.
There was even a point in which the Heat reportedly made him untouchable in trade talks, hoping and thinking he’d be their star for the future.
Fast forward to today, and that no longer seems to be the case.
Nonetheless, it’s not due to a lack of skill, which is why Stephen A. Smith believes it’s about time Herro takes his game to the next level.
Talking to Udonis Haslem and Mike Miller on their The OGs Show, Smith claimed that people shouldn’t be constantly talking about how the Heat need to give Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo another star, as Herro should be that guy (via NBA Retweet).
Stephen A. Smith and Udonis Haslem discussing the future of the Miami Heat and what Tyler Herro can do for them:
“Tyler Herro can ball, he can ball!
So why we always talking about somebody else coming onto the Miami Heat because the Miami Heat need them?”“So what you gonna do… pic.twitter.com/nlbdvyrd0W

Smith urged Herro to show more pride and, above all, be more consistent, as that has always been the knock on his game.
It’s never been skill or lack thereof; it’s about showing up every single day.
Truth be told, Smith may have a point there.
Herro is just 24 years old, but it still feels like he’s underachieved.
Perhaps his ceiling came in that Sixth Man of the Year season, but the Miami Heat definitely hope that’s not the case.
