One of the most popular sports talk show personalities in America is Stephen A. Smith.
He is most known for his contributions to ESPN’s “First Take,” where he talks about a plethora of sports topics each day.
There are many talk show panelists who are former pro athletes.
Most of the people who join Stephen A. on “First Take” played a professional sport.
But, Stephen A. did not.
This is why seeing his first pitch at the New York Yankees game should not be a surprise to anyone.
He thought he was prepared to take the mound and fire a strike over the middle of the plate.
But that was not the case.
He short-hopped the ball to home plate and was disgusted by it.
“There’s no excuse, it was a choke job,” he said via MLB Life.

At least the ball reached the catcher’s mitt, which is something many people before him failed to accomplish.
Yet, not being able to reach the catcher in the air was quite demoralizing.
It will be interesting to see if Stephen A. ever gets another chance to throw out the first pitch.
You can bet he is going to want to redeem himself and show he can make a good pitch.
Stephen A. has never been a guy who talks much about MLB.
He usually focuses on the NFL and NBA.
Maybe his experience throwing this first pitch will allow him to be more open to discussing baseball.
After all, it is America’s pastime.
