The Pittsburgh Steelers are 3-3 entering into their bye on Week 7.

Much has been said and written about rookie running back Najee Harris, but there is another rookie who has been playing great and is lesser known.

His name is Tre Norwood, the team’s seventh-round draft pick and the 245th pick of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Norwood is a 22-year-old player out of Oklahoma who is 6’0″ and 194 pounds.

Steelers aren’t playing today, but when they’re back on the field in CLE, keep an eye out for rookie Tre Norwood.

He’s impressing coaches and giving the secondary even more versatility.

Steelers Special Teams Coach Has Interesting Words Of Praise For Norwood

In early September, Danny Smith, the Steelers special teams coach, described Norwood’s abilities as follows:

“I put him in some tough situations in front of people, in front of his teammates in practice.  He never blinked. He never blinked. He really didn’t. I told him to cut his eyelids off because that boy don’t blink.”

Thankfully his eyelids are still in place, but Smith is alluding to his no fear approach to the game.

This same approach has earned Norwood 15 solo tackles in the span of 6 games.

He has also played in 37% of the Steelers special teams snaps.

When asked about his tackles of Seattle’s DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett in Week 6, Norwood attributed it to his preparation.

He said:

“It’s just study habits. That’s something I’ve always prided myself on, especially starting back in college [at Oklahoma]. Just making sure that whenever I’m learning something new, that I pick it up in the quickest way possible. Apply it to myself, the best way that I can learn. I feel like that’s what helps me out a lot, taking what the coaching point is, or whatever needs to be learned, and breaking it down into terms that fit best with me.”

Norwood is likely spending his bye week studying the Browns’ many offensive weapons.

Watch Norwood’s Steelers take on the Browns in Week 8 on October 31 at 1:00 PM EDT.
