The Pittsburgh Steelers are suddenly the team of second chances.
They hired Brian Flores as their linebackers coach despite the lawsuit he has against the NFL.
Then, they are expected to keep quarterback Dwayne Haskins and let him compete for the starting quarterback role.
However, that’s not a guarantee that he will get the nod from head coach Mike Tomlin.
Likewise, general manager Kevin Colbert’s plans before he steps down from his position could affect Haskins’ future.
GM Kevin Colbert expects the #Steelers to have two QBs def under contract shortly, Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins, whom he expects to tender. But the team will def add two more QBs before camp, he says… w/out giving us any great hints at whether that’s via draft, trade or FA.

In the tweet above by NFL Network and CBS Sports reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala, Colbert expects the Steelers to have two quarterbacks under contract: Haskins and Mason Rudolph.
As it stands, Rudolph has the best shot of becoming the starter, but Tomlin is not committing to that possibility yet.
Instead, he wants to see more from the two signal-callers.
Likewise, they expect Haskins to be tendered after becoming the scout team quarterback last season.
The former Ohio State standout did show promise through his rocket arm but struggled with his accuracy and in-game decisions.
However, Haskins won’t have a 50-percent chance of landing the starting role because the Steelers plan to bring in two more quarterbacks to compete for the role.
Colbert did not indicate whether these quarterbacks are rookies or free agents.
What Are Haskins’ Chances To Become Pittsburgh’s Starter?
If Haskins can turn back the clock and play as he did with the Buckeyes, the Steelers might strongly consider him for the starting role.
Otherwise, the role might not go to him or Rudolph because there’s no sense bringing in more options if the two of them are enough.
Pittsburgh will explore its options in the offseason, especially the possibility of landing a marquee quarterback like Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson.
The Steelers may also look at other plausible choices like Jimmy Garoppolo, Mitchell Trubisky, or Gardner Minshew.
With the team giving Haskins a shot a redemption, the ball is now in his court to show that he’s worth the gamble.
