Steelers Are Meeting With Interesting QB Prospect Today

The Pittsburgh Steelers are still mired in a strange game of chicken with Aaron Rodgers, and while almost all signs point to him eventually being the team’s next starting quarterback, the team still has to explore other options to ensure it isn’t left high and dry.

Those options could certainly present themselves in the upcoming draft, which is why the Steelers are meeting with one interesting quarterback prospect today.

Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz shared on X that Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord is visiting the Steelers today ahead of his visit with the New York Giants tomorrow.

McCord, who led the nation in passing last season, has acquitted himself well throughout the draft process with a series of good interviews and impressive on-the-board work. Several teams I’ve spoken with say he’s one of the more undervalued players in the entire draft — highlighting his prototypical NFL size, winning pedigree (see 21-point comeback vs Miami) and capacity to read coverage.”

It’s starting to look like this quarterback class is simply Cam Ward and then everybody else, as McCord has started to win people over and could truly be in that mix of second-tier QB prospects that includes Shedeur Sanders, Jaxson Dart, Kyle Shough, and Will Howard.

Syracuse quietly had one of the nation’s most explosive offenses this past season, led by McCord, who threw for 4,779 yards and 34 touchdowns in his lone campaign with the Orange after transferring from Ohio State.

If Rodgers truly is the answer, it wouldn’t hurt to have a young high-upside prospect as well to sit behind him for a year or two, and McCord could be the top candidate to do exactly that.
