The Boston Celtics enter the season as the defending champions.
As such, they’re going to be the team to beat until proven otherwise, and every single team in the league is going to aim for their crown.
Of course, dethroning them will be much easier said than done.
Brad Stevens has put together one of the most stacked — if not the most stacked — rosters in the game, and the fact that they finally got over the hump and won the whole thing has instilled them with more confidence than ever.
With that in mind, former NBA coach Stan Van Gundy claimed that the Celtics have the best roster he’s seen in today’s NBA (via Gary Washburn).
Stan Van Gundy on the #Celtics: "That's probably the best NBA roster I've seen. All five of their starters are plus defenders."

Per Van Gundy, the fact that all five starters are plus-defenders only makes them deadlier.
Joe Mazzulla silenced the doubters in his second season in the league.
He learned from his mistakes from his rookie year, proving Stevens was right all along for trusting him.
He’s an analytics freak, and while some might argue that the Celtics take way too many threes or whatnot, it clearly worked out perfectly for them last season.
Also, they have the potential to keep opposing teams frustrated with the way they play on the defensive end of the floor.
The New York Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers made big moves to take them down in the Eastern Conference, and we know how stacked the Western Conference is.
But for now, there’s no team with a roster as good as the Celtics’.
