The Los Angeles Lakers cannot catch a break.
It seems like they cannot keep the same intensity for the full four quarters, and even bottom-feeding teams can go toe-to-toe with them on a nightly basis.
LeBron James continues to post video game-like numbers at age 38, averaging a whopping 27.8 points, 8.1 rebounds, 6.6 assists, 1.1 steals, and 2.1 triples per game.
That’s why NBA analyst Skip Bayless cannot believe how on Earth the Lakers have fallen to the 13th spot in the West despite James’ heroics:
“I find this mind-boggling that LeBron’s Los Angeles Lakers have plummeted to 13th in the West, considering the fact he has been on an all-time spectacular offensive roll,” Bayless said on Undisputed. “And I’m not exaggerating this a bit; I’m not being sarcastic 1 ounce; he has been spectacular on offense.”

Truth be told, as impressive as James’ numbers have been, most of them have been empty and during garbage time or just trying to get his team back into contention.
Without Anthony Davis, the Lakers don’t have another consistent scorer who can help LeBron carry the offensive burden.
Also, to be fair, expecting a 38-year-old player to bail them out and lead the way isn’t the wisest strategy from the front office, so there’s plenty of blame on them as well.
All things considered, this seemed like a wasted season even before AD fell with a foot injury.
And other than breaking Kareem Abdul-Jabbar‘s scoring record, James should have little incentive to be on the court at this point.
