The first round of the 2025 NFL Draft ended with a twist, as Shedeur Sanders, once projected as a potential top selection, remains unclaimed as teams prepare for the second round.
This surprising development has sparked speculation about which franchise might capitalize on his slide.
The Dallas Cowboys, holding the No. 44 overall pick, have emerged as an intriguing potential destination.
Media figure Skip Bayless, never one to shy away from bold proclamations about his favorite team, recently voiced his enthusiasm for this possibility.
“But now that we get to the second day, it’s possible Shedeur falls to Dallas. That would be my dream scenario, at 44th overall,” Bayless said.

Sanders’ draft trajectory has been remarkable. The quarterback generated significant buzz throughout the evaluation process, with some mock drafts placing him as high as the No. 1 overall selection.
Yet, thirty-two picks came and went without Sanders hearing his name.
The Cleveland Browns hold the first selection of Round 2, but there’s no guarantee they’ll end Sanders’ wait.
The Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints also have been linked to the Colorado star, though all three organizations passed on him during the first round, perhaps indicating reservations about his ceiling as a franchise cornerstone.
Dak Prescott remains entrenched as the Cowboys’ starting quarterback, signed through 2028, but Sanders could develop behind him without immediate pressure to perform.
That arrangement might prove beneficial for both parties, potentially positioning Sanders to take the reins when Prescott’s contract expires.
However, his presence would add another layer of scrutiny to Prescott’s performance, while also creating competition with backup Joe Milton, who was acquired in a trade this offseason.
Despite these complications, the opportunity to secure a quarterback with Sanders’ potential in the second round represents the kind of value that a front office dreams about.
