Nearly every NBA fan in the world had an interest in San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama’s big Summer League debut on Friday night.
Some people were expecting a rip-roaring performance while others were thinking Wembanyama would start off slow.
In the end, the French phenom definitely wasn’t mind-blowing, creating an average stat line for the evening.
Following the game, analyst Skip Bayless hopped on Twitter to share his thoughts:
“It was just one Summer League game, but I must admit, I wasn’t blown away by what I saw from Victor Wembanyama. He was well taught. He plays the right way. Astonishing skill for his astonishing height. But I didn’t see will-imposing or, obviously, physically dominant.”

Not many people were blown away by the rookie’s game.
He looked winded and out of sorts at times.
He also made a few avoidable mistakes that most average rookies make.
As mentioned by Bayless, he also wasn’t very physically dominant or imposing much of a will on others.
Despite this, many Spurs fans aren’t too worried about what they saw.
Most people agreed that Wembanyama would need time to adjust to the NBA and the way it works.
They also agreed that the Summer League wouldn’t be a great place to truly inspect his talents.
Instead, this is the start of a long process that will hopefully allow Wembanyama to practice a lot, tweak his approach to the game, work with the coaches and players, and be ready to do serious work in the fall.
All Spurs fans wanted Wembanyama to leave everyone speechless on Friday night.
But they also recognized that wasn’t very likely and know the real work is just beginning.
