Over the years, NFL fans have had some strong opinions about Mike McCarthy.
He’s a Super Bowl-winning coach; no one can take that away from him.
Even so, his methods, apparent lack of discipline, inability to make in-game adjustments, and shortcomings in the playoffs have also plagued his career.
That’s why, as much as the Dallas Cowboys have been playing much better lately, Skip Bayless still isn’t sold on him.
With that in mind, the controversial pundit took to social media to share a rather wild theory about why the Cowboys are finishing the season strong.
He claimed that the players are rallying behind McCarthy because they don’t want a hardnosed coach replacing him:
The Cowboys are now playing hard for Mike McCarhy against mostly mediocre teams because they don’t want him replaced by a real head coach who will hold them accountable. McCarthy is a nice guy who creates a country club atmosphere.

That honestly doesn’t make that much sense.
McCarthy isn’t a perfect coach by any means, but he’s earned the love and respect of that group of players.
Granted, it would’ve been much better and more productive to take that same approach when they still had an opportunity to make the playoffs instead of waiting until the season’s final stretch.
There are more than enough reasons to fire McCarthy, but there’s also a case to be made for keeping him.
No one knows what Jerry Jones might do with his team, and if success on the field were a determining factor for him, he would’ve fired Jason Garrett much earlier than he did.
Hopefully, for the fans, whatever the decision may be, the players will play as hard next season as they did when it was already too late this year.
