With the NFL trade deadline coming soon, fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers wonder what moves their team will make.
One topic of discussion is wide receiver Chase Claypool.
The young receiver came into 2022 saying he’s a top-three receiver.

However, he’s falling flat in the stats after his comments from before the 2022 season began.
But does this mean the Steelers should trade him, or is the issue beyond the numbers?
Claypool Has Some Value On The Trade Market
If the Steelers want to be sellers, then trading Claypool makes sense.
He’s a young star, which gives him value with a trade deal.
While he hasn’t factored into the passing game much this season, he still can make spectacular plays.

It’s his ability to do these things which give him value in a receiver-needy market.
However, trading Claypool isn’t the right choice for the Steelers.
Steelers Need Claypool To Build Around Kenny Pickett
Everyone in Pittsburgh knows Kenny Pickett is the franchise QB for the Steelers.
However, he needs receivers around him to be successful.
While Diontae Johnson and rookie George Pickens are getting most of the work, Claypool can still help.
He’s young and shows athleticism with some amazing catches.
Trading him to another team makes no sense, especially when he’s a low hit on the team’s salary cap.
He’s also locked in through the 2024 season, meaning there’s no contract issue going on with him.
With everything Claypool has shown, and the need for top receivers for Pickett, the Steelers need to keep the young receiver.
