Wildfires in California have cast uncertainty over the Los Angeles Rams’ upcoming playoff game, but they are proceeding with their preparations as planned.
The proximity of the fires to the Rams’ practice facility has raised concerns.
The NFL has previous experience with such situations, having relocated games from Southern California due to wildfires before.
The situation prompted both Rams head coach Sean McVay and quarterback Matthew Stafford to address the challenges facing their community.
Stafford emphasized the team’s deep connection to Los Angeles and its residents, highlighting how each game represents more than just football.
“Every time we suit up, we’re the Los Angeles Rams. We play for the people in this community, the people that support us, and this week will be another example of that,” Stafford said, via the Rams on X. “It’s, I’m sure, hopefully, a great escape for people who’ve been going through a lot of tough times here the last couple days.”

McVay shared his hopes for containing the fires while expressing solidarity with residents.
“Obviously our thoughts and prayers are with everybody that’s been affected by these fires,” McVay said. “It’s one of those deals that almost doesn’t feel real, but it certainly is real to the people that are affected. Praying that as many people are OK. You just see the amount of people that are affected, and it’s one of those deals that, you know, it gives you perspective.”

The wild-card playoff game against the Minnesota Vikings remains scheduled for Monday night at SoFi Stadium.
However, the NFL has developed a contingency plan, with State Farm Stadium in Arizona, serving as a potential venue if conditions worsen.
