Over the last several years, Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay has emerged as one of the best coaches and leaders in the NFL, especially on the offensive side of the football.
Since he took over the Rams in 2017, they have often been among the league leaders in points and yards, and of course, they won the Super Bowl championship just two years ago.
McVay has just been named to the league’s Competition Committee, and he had a funny quip about his selection, per Stu Jackson.
“Maybe I’ll learn not to burn my timeouts in the second half so early,” McVay said.

The quip was a reference to this season’s wild-card playoff game between L.A. and the Detroit Lions, in which L.A. called two timeouts early in the second half because of how loud Ford Field was.
As a result, McVay only had one timeout remaining to stop the clock when Detroit got the ball back with just over four minutes left and was able to consistently use up time off the clock.
The Rams lost 24-23, but they have optimism for the immediate future.
After missing the playoffs last season, they enjoyed sensational rookie performances in 2023 from wide receiver Puka Nacua, who had 1,486 yards and six touchdowns, and rookie nose tackle Kobie Turner.
In addition, second-year running back Kyren Williams ran for 1,144 yards and 12 touchdowns, which earned him a spot in the Pro Bowl.
Some of the mainstays from 2021’s Super Bowl-winning team, including quarterback Matthew Stafford, defensive tackle Aaron Donald, and wide receiver Cooper Kupp, remain, and their health and productivity will be huge keys for the Rams moving forward.
