During the offseason, it looked like quarterback Lamar Jackson was about to leave the Baltimore Ravens.
He had been engaged in contract negotiations with the team, and after failing to come to terms with them on a deal, he was placed on the non-exclusive franchise tag, which allowed him to negotiate with another team of his choice.
But the Ravens caved in and gave him a five-year, $260 million contract, and now he seems revitalized, as he has led them to a 2-1 record.
Per Jordan Schultz, a scout feels offensive coordinator Todd Monken “is trying to empower him to be the best version of himself” and that Jackson can play even better.
Here’s an interesting note from a scout today on #Ravens QB Lamar Jackson: “He’s played pretty well the last two weeks, but I actually think there’s another level or two for him. Through three games, the former 2019 regular-season MVP has thrown for 608 yards and two touchdowns while completing 73.3 percent of his passes, and he has run for 193 yards and two touchdowns while averaging 6.0 yards per rush attempt.
The Ravens have gotten Jackson a new weapon at wide receiver in rookie Zay Flowers, a first-round choice in April’s draft who has 188 yards on 21 catches so far this season.
But it is too early for Ravens fans to start making plans for the Super Bowl this February, as the team lost on Sunday to the Indianapolis Colts, who were without quarterback Anthony Richardson, 22-19, in overtime.
Jackson didn’t play badly in that contest, but he didn’t throw a single touchdown pass in 31 attempts, although he did run for 101 yards and two touchdowns.
In Week 4, Baltimore will visit the surprising Cleveland Browns, who lost star running Nick Chubb for the season to a knee injury but rank first in points and total yards given up.
