About three weeks after the conclusion of the 2024 NFL regular season, the New Orleans Saints are the only team in the league that still doesn’t have a head coach in place.
They have had a number of candidates, but right now, it appears the job could end up going to either Mike McCarthy, the former Dallas Cowboys head coach, or Kellen Moore, who is the Philadelphia Eagles’ offensive coordinator.
The matter reportedly will be settled soon.
“Kellen Moore today. Mike McCarthy next. Things are coming down the stretch,” Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football wrote on X.
The Saints have a plan in place to interview Mike McCarthy at the end of this week, I'm told.

With Moore now preparing for the Super Bowl, the Saints reportedly are traveling to speak with him.
The Saints are flying to Philadelphia tonight to interview Kellen Moore for the head coaching job, per sources.

Moore has overseen an Eagles offense that ranked seventh in points and eighth in total yards during the regular season and got the most out of running back Saquon Barkley, who became the ninth player in NFL history to reach 2,000 rushing yards in a single season.
The Eagles also have one of the league’s best offensive lines, which is a position group where the Saints are lacking.
McCarthy coached the Cowboys to plenty of regular season success during much of his time with them, but in his five seasons in Dallas won just one playoff game.
New Orleans was 5-12 this season and suffered through subpar quarterback play, but they have a couple of building blocks, including running back Alvin Kamara.
They haven’t made the playoffs since the 2020 season, which was the last time quarterback Drew Brees suited up for them.
