Tyrann Mathieu‘s signing with the New Orleans Saints made much sense practically and emotionally.
His inclusion completes a loaded secondary that can dominate the opposition.
Aside from him, the Saints also have Pro Bowl cornerback Marshon Lattimore and Marcus Maye.
But his story hits the heart of every fan because he is a Louisiana native.
Coming home to play for the team he cheered for when he was younger is a perfect backstory for the All-Pro safety.
Both parties made it official when Mathieu signed a three-year, $33 million contract.
While the 29-year-old defensive back cashed in, the team will also earn a fortune from selling his jersey.
Mathieu’s signing has been the talk of the town that the preorder link for his jersey broke the NFL Shop website.

It’s a good problem for both the league and the Saints because the demand is highly evident.
Everyone who saw him play at St. Augustine High School and Louisiana State University wants to have his Saints jersey.
It’s also a fantastic reminder that young players in the area could end up like him if they put in the hard work.
Mathieu’s Signing Is Hardly For Drama
While his jersey sales might go through the roof, joining the Saints isn’t just for show.
He’s still at the top of his game and his football wisdom will help younger defensive backs like Paulson Adebo and C.J. Gardner-Johnson.
Last season, Mathieu finished with 60 solo tackles, three interceptions, and a sack for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Aside from his All-Pro and Pro Bowl selections, he also won Super Bowl LIV with the Chiefs.
Mathieu will help calm the nerves of their younger players once they enter the postseason.
