Baseball is a beautiful, fascinating game: it includes pitchers throwing a ball at more than 90 mph most of the times, players executing calculated, highly-rehearsed swings, and players covering incredible distances in record time to catch a ball or reach a base.
MLB has the best athletes and baseball players in the world, so it has the most spectacular plays… and the best pictures, too.
The Colorado Rockies‘ Twitter account posted an incredible photo of one of their players, Garrett Hampson, in the exact moment of hitting a baseball.
“The details of a hit,” they titled it.

The picture was taken by team photographer Kyle Cooper, and captured the physics of batting in one snapshot.
When the hitter is impacting the ball, its shape changes at the point of impact, but it’s so brief that it’s barely seen in video unless it’s slow-motion.
“Talk About Squaring Up A Ball!”
Depending on where the hitter impacts the ball, the bat may break into dozens of pieces, but if it is with the fat part, the barrel, the odds of that happening are minuscule.
A well-hit ball will be struck with the barrel, like the picture shown in this post.
It was, most likely, a base hit by Hampson, who has a bit of pop.
These kind of things are fascinating for fans, who replied in awe to the Rockies’ cool tweet.
Messages ranging from “would hate to be that baseball” and “talk about squaring up a ball” were seen in the comments.
Pictures like this one remind us that physics are in everything we see and do, and baseball is clearly not an exception to the rule.
