Most of the big-name free agents have already signed with their respective teams, but that doesn’t mean that the Hot Stove can’t keep sizzling with just a few weeks to go before Opening Day.
Today, the Colorado Rockies made a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays, acquiring outfielder Randal Grichuk in exchange for an outfielder of their own, Raimel Tapia.
Hot Stove season isn’t over just yet, and there’s still some time for some big moves to be made, at least on the trade front.
Grichuk enjoyed a solid 2021 campaign with the Blue Jays, hitting 22 home runs and knocking in 81 runs while hitting .241.
The 30-year-old has been with Toronto ever since they acquired him from the St. Louis Cardinals in 2018.

Are The Rockies Trying To Win?
Again, the Rockies aren’t exactly set up to win.
It’s a good move for them, as they now have another power bat to go along with Kris Bryant, who signed with the Rockies on a seven-year, $182 million contract a week ago.
But they still don’t have enough to compete for a playoff spot.
It’s interesting to see them try to win now after they let Trevor Story walk and traded Nolan Arenado to St. Louis, though this move is certainly an upgrade from Tapia.
The Rockies will have to deal with the San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Dodgers, and San Diego Padres in the NL West this year, so while this move is an improvement for them, it still doesn’t make them a playoff contender or put them anywhere close to being one.
Perhaps they’re trying to build for the future and give fans a reason to come to the ballpark, but until they have a little more depth, that’s going to be hard.
