The Houston Rockets have spent the past couple of years rebuilding the roster, but this past free agency period they signaled that they’re ready to take the next step by signing veterans to help their young core grow and develop.
The Rockets managed to lure Fred VanVleet away from the Toronto Raptors with a lucrative three-year, $120 million deal that shocked the rest of the league.
VanVleet had an up-and-down 2022-23 season shooting the basketball, but the point guard instantly brings leadership and stability to a young Houston squad that’s been sorely lacking those traits.
Although VanVleet is beginning to hit the point where guards start to decline, he still is one of the better players at his position and should be able to make the Rockets more respectable.
The former undrafted guard has turned himself into quite the player and his story is nothing short of amazing.
In fact, despite his success at the NBA level, he discussed that he still continues to train with his brothers every offseason via Swish Cultures.
“It makes the story a little more special,” VanVleet said.

In the video, VanVleet can be seen going through several different drills with his group right there with him on the court.
Later on, the Rockets guard discusses that he wanted to share in his successes with the people that have been with him which gives fans a little insight into how he operates as both a player and person.
Houston may not be competing for a title this year, but they’ve certainly taken a step forward with someone like VanVleet on board.
