The New York Jets made a big move in the offseason.
Mike Williams could end up being a massive factor in the passing game.
And while signing a player coming off a major season-ending injury will always represent a risk, it was a risk worth taking for this team.
With that in mind, HC Robert Saleh shared his thoughts on this signing (via Jets Video).
“If he does it the right way, we’re very confident we’ll have him ready for Week 1,” Saleh said.

The Jets coach admitted that he had always been a fan of Williams’ game, stating that he’s the kind of player who makes a 50/50 ball become a 70/30 ball because of his abilities.
He also said that should he continue to do things right with his recovery, he should be on the field by the start of the season.
Williams might be in for a slow start to the campaign, as he’s likely going to miss training camp and the preseason, and it might take a while before he develops some chemistry with his new quarterback, Aaron Rodgers.
The Jets signed him to a very reasonable, incentives-based deal, so there was virtually no risk.
He’s a machine when it comes to putting up yards after the catch, and he’s always been a massive threat in the deep game.
Rodgers can turn a good receiver into a great one, and he definitely knows how to make the most of speedsters who find themselves open 40+ yards down the field.
He’ll still be behind Garrett Wilson in touches, but the Jets could have one of the most explosive one-two punches in the passing game.
