It’s no secret the New York Jets have been one of the biggest winners of the NFL offseason.
They’ve added several pieces to both sides of the ball, including Aaron Rodgers, slated to make an immediate impact.
While Rodgers and his MVP-winning mindset are certain to help the offense, he’ll still need to be protected.
The Jets’ offensive line has been scrutinized as of late, especially about overall health.
Mekhi Becton was a first-round pick in 2020 and has been one of the Jets’ top offensive linemen.
However, as Robert Saleh has recently pointed out in a press conference, “He can’t be in the starting conversation until he proves he can play a game.”
An interesting mix of good & bad/weird news from #Jets HC Robert Saleh on OT Mekhi Becton. He’s going to get right tackle reps for first time in camp tomorrow, Saleh said he can’t be in starting conversation until he proves ‘he can play a game’ & make it through it, said it would… pic.twitter.com/wyhCwTaI6R

Becton missed the entirety of the 2022 season, and it appears that he’s still not back to 100% health.
Saleh’s comments indicate that Becton will get his fair share of chances for a starting role, but was also realistic.
If he is unsure that Becton can make it through a full game, Saleh said that it’ll be tough for the team to put him in that role.
While Saleh’s comments were mainly negative about Becton’s status for 2023, he did offer some positivity.
Saleh said Becton is “moving in the right direction,” a sign of things to come.
If Becton misses any time, it could be a detriment to Rodgers, as well as the rushing game.
Breece Hall is also recovering from injury and will rely on strong offensive line play to break through on long runs.
Will the Jets’ line hold up for the 2023 season, giving them the results they seek?
