The Dallas Cowboys pounced on the opportunity to add a young quarterback to their roster when they acquired Trey Lance from the San Francisco 49ers.
The Cowboys only had to send out a 2024 fourth-rounder for Lance, a low cost for the former No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Lance is a worthy gamble to take because of his talent and age, though he will likely spend time developing behind the scenes as Dallas is set at the position with Dak Prescott.
Prescott has dealt with injuries the past few seasons, though when healthy is more than capable of leading the Cowboys offense.
However, some of his inconsistent performances have drawn criticism and ire from analysts and fans alike.
Now with Dallas bringing in Lance, some took it as a sign that the organization is cooling on Prescott long-term which prompted Robert Griffin III to come to his defense via his Twitter account.
“Dak Prescott is the most scrutinized QB in the NFL,” Griffin tweeted.
Dak Prescott is the most scrutinized QB in the NFL. Every throw, every int and every decision is broken down and criticized more than any QB in the NFL. Trading for Trey Lance will only give people an excuse to scrutinize even more. pic.twitter.com/KPuiZDNpxJ

Saying Prescott is the most scrutinized quarterback in the league might be hyperbole, but he definitely has earned his fair share of criticism over the years.
It’s hard to say whether or not Dallas indeed is hedging against Prescott’s long-term viability as their starting quarterback, though trading for Lance still makes sense considering what they gave up to get him.
The only way for Prescott to end the noise is to go out and prove he’s one of the best in the league.
The Cowboys have one of the most talented rosters in the league and it’ll be up to Prescott to realize their potential as a potential Super Bowl contender.
