The San Francisco 49ers have made it clear this week what the quarterback depth chart will look like to start the 2023 NFL season, as Brock Purdy will be the starter, with veteran Sam Darnold backing him up and Trey Lance left at No. 3.
Over the course of training camp and the preseason, all signs have pointed to this being the scenario the 49ers would run with, as Lance did nothing to stand out, nor did he seem to improve over the offseason while Darnold and Purdy came in ready to prove their worth.
With Lance’s chances of seeing the field during the upcoming regular season being slim to none, the 49ers seem intent on trading the former first-round pick and getting what they can for him while he still may have some trade value.
Now that Kyle Shanahan and company have let it be known what they intend to do at the quarterback position moving forward, Rich Eisen talked about what could be next for the 23-year-old quarterback.

Eisen believes the 49ers will hold onto Lance rather than trade him because if last season’s revolving door at the position was any indication, San Francisco needs players ready to take over when their number is called.
It could be argued that if Purdy didn’t get hurt against the Philadelphia Eagles, the 49ers could’ve gone to the Super Bowl, so having viable backups might be something the team should stick with.NEXT: Insider Reveals How The 49ers Have Been 'Shopping' Trey Lance
