The New England Patriots have bigger problems than their record right now.
Jerod Mayo’s comments about his players have made a lot of noise on social media, most of it negative.
The first-year coach claimed his team was “soft,” and even if he tried to motivate his players, those words rubbed plenty of people the wrong way.
Notably, that includes Rex Ryan.
Talking on ESPN, the former head coach ripped Mayo for his choice of words, stating that those words should’ve been kept private.

He stated that Mayo tried to humiliate his players in public rather than taking a deep look in the mirror and judging himself first.
Ryan didn’t mince his words, adding that the Patriots “stunk” and that most of that was on coaching.
Mayo is an inexperienced coach, and he’s already gotten himself in a tough spot with his words twice this season.
He clearly didn’t follow Bill Belichick’s approach of barely saying anything to make sure the conversation stayed on the field and not in anything else.
The Patriots are 1-6, and while they don’t have enough talent on their roster to be much better, coaching has also been an issue.
They’ve shown a lack of discipline, the play-calling and decision-making have left something to be desired, and this team will most likely get worse before it gets any better.
It remains to be seen how the players will respond to Mayo’s words, but facing a tough divisional rival in a must-win situation is far from ideal.
