LeBron James could choose to leave the Los Angeles Lakers this summer if he wants because he has a player option coming up this offseason.
That being said, Lakers insider Jovan Buha believes that isn’t going to happen.
On the latest episode of “Buha’s Block,” he told Sam Amick that he thinks James is definitely sticking in Los Angeles, likely for the rest of his career.
“This seems to be trending in the direction of LeBron re-signing or opting in and extending,” Buha said.
“Both sides want him to be a Laker for the rest of his career,” he added.
Buha said that everyone – James, his management, the team, and the front office – wants to continue working together.
That means that James will most certainly sign a new deal with the Lakers this summer.
Buha did admit that some things could get in the way of James remaining with the Lakers.
For example, the future of his son Bronny will weigh heavily on him.
Additionally, the rest of the season will be important and James obviously wants the team to have some sort of presence in the playoffs.
So there are reasons why James might elect to say goodbye to the Lakers but it just doesn’t seem likely.
If James does re-sign with LA, that means that he will probably retire as a Laker.
He is now 39 years old and although he is still playing sensational basketball, he is definitely nearing the end of his career.
The question is just how much more James and the Lakers can do in their time together.
Is another championship possible?
It will require that James keeps playing as he has been, the rest of the roster remains strong, and perhaps one or two more pieces are added.
For a number of reasons, this summer will be huge for James and the future of the Lakers.
