Early in free agency, the New York Yankees have had their name tied to one of the premier free agents.
Reports have surfaced that they requested Jacob deGrom‘s medical information, highlighting their interest in the righty.

He opted out of his contract with the New York Mets this offseason and though many believe he will stay with the Mets, his name has been floated on the market.
The Yankees are the most recent team to throw their hat in the ring.
This could potentially be a big move in their rotation, giving the team another top-line starter.
Injury Concerns
While it is common to request medical reports on free agents, deGrom presents even more of a risk.
Though he has been arguably the most dominant pitcher in baseball during his career, he has faced many injuries in recent seasons.
Now, teams will likely be cautious when evaluating any potential contracts for him.
The Yankees, who have dealt with many injuries over the last two seasons, will want to make sure deGrom is at 100% before signing him to any contract.
Other Suitors for DeGrom
While free agency is still in its infancy, a number of teams seem to be interested in deGrom.
Beyond the Yankees, the Los Angeles Dodgers, Texas Rangers, Mets, and Chicago Cubs are all reportedly in on him.
The Atlanta Braves are another team that have floated in the conversation throughout the 2022 season, as they may look to take him from their division rivals.
Reports also have surfaced that he’d prefer to be in Texas, making the Rangers or Houston Astros a potential landing spot.

Whoever ends up with deGrom will be receiving a perennial Cy Young candidate, so long as he can stay healthy for a full season.
The Yankees, though it’s early, seem to be making their name known in the race.
