The San Antonio Spurs are certainly better than they were last season, but they are not where they want to be, at least not yet.
But that could soon change if they make a few smart moves.
There have been whispers of De’Aaron Fox being unhappy with the progress of his Sacramento Kings and the Spurs might take advantage of that.
Writing for The Athletic, Sam Amick and Anthony Slater dug into how the Spurs might get Fox.
“Meanwhile, rival executives are monitoring the Fox situation closely and league sources say one team in particular — the San Antonio Spurs — is positioning itself to pursue the Houston native as a possible partner for Victor Wembanyama, should Fox become available,” Amick and Slater said.
Obviously, this is far from a done deal.
In fact, it’s far from even being a strong possibility.
A lot has to happen before the Spurs have a shot at getting Fox.
Although he isn’t happy with how his team is doing, Fox isn’t yet at the point of demanding a trade.
Plus, it’s not clear how the Spurs would be able to woo him away, especially since the Kings wouldn’t let him walk for just any deal.
Also, why would Fox want to leave his team for one that is also struggling?
The Kings are the 12th team in the West with a 13-15 record, while the Spurs are 11th with 14-13.
The appeal of playing with Wembanyama is certainly big, but would that be enough to cause Fox to move to San Antonio?
