After being unable to secure a long-term contract with the New York Giants ahead of the 2023 NFL season, star running back Saquon Barkley’s future with the team was put in doubt, with the expectation being that he’d leave the team in NFL free agency this year.
Although there’s still a chance that something can be worked out between Barkley and the Giants, a viable suitor for his services has been revealed, which could be a game-changer for the veteran back as well as the team he’d sign with.
According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston, Barkley has been talking to Houston Texans star quarterback CJ Stroud about potentially teaming up during the NFL offseason via JPA Football.
“The headliner of the running back free agent class is New York Giants star Saquon Barkley, who has targeted the Texans as his top potential destination and has been communicating with Stroud, per league sources.”

Along with needing an upgrade in the receiving corps, the Texans could use an upgrade coming out of the backfield, with Devin Singletary not exacting moving the needle for the team during the 2023 campaign.
Barkley would be an ideal addition to the Texans during the offseason, giving Stroud another star player to lean on moving forward, who can get it done on the ground while also making an impact in the passing game.
During the 2023 campaign, Barkley rushed for 962 yards and six touchdowns on 247 carries.
Barkley also caught 41 passes for 280 receiving yards and four receiving touchdowns.
With the Texans being a team on the rise with a lot of money at their disposal, Barkley being a target this offseason makes a lot of sense, as he would immediately upgrade the offense and make Houston that much more intimidating on offense.
