The Boston Red Sox have to know they face an uphill battle heading into 2024.
Playing in the AL East will do that to a team.
On paper, there is not a tougher division in baseball than the AL East.
All five teams in the division have a legitimate chance at making the postseason.
But, it looks as if the Red Sox are the one team a notch below the rest.
Yet, the Red Sox still feel there is time to get their roster up to par with the rest of the division.
But, they need the right person leading the charge.
According to Jon Heyman, the Red Sox are bringing back Theo Epstein as a senior advisor.
Red Sox finally make a big move. Theo Epstein joins the team’s ownership group and will also work as a senior adviser, team announces.

Epstein was the team’s GM from 2003-2011, where he made a name for himself as one of the best baseball minds in the sport.
After leaving Boston he became the President of Baseball Operations for the Chicago Cubs, who won the 2016 World Series.
There is no question Epstein knows how to build a winning team.
Now the Red Sox hope he can do that for them once again.
Boston needs to add some star power if they want to make a run at the playoffs in 2024.
One player who is still available is starting pitcher Blake Snell.
He is the reigning NL Cy Young winner and one of the top arms in baseball.
After trading away Chris Sale, the Red Sox have to fill in their starting rotation.
If they are serious about contending next season, they should at least make a serious offer for Snell.
