The Boston Red Sox are hoping to find ways to improve their roster this offseason.
Seeing some of their rivals get better should let Boston know they need to make moves.
Last year, the Red Sox finished 78-84 and were in last place in the AL East.
In recent years, the Red Sox have not been afraid to spend money.
They brought in some big free agents including Masataka Yoshida last year.
But, so far this offseason the Red Sox have been quiet.
The most recent move they made was bringing in a veteran backup catcher.
According to Jon Heyman, the Red Sox have signed Roberto Perez to a contract.

Perez is nothing more than a spot starter, and many Red Sox fans will not be excited about this move.
But, there are still plenty of good players available and the Red Sox should be interested.
Boston is trying to keep up while playing in the best division in baseball.
The AL East is loaded with teams that could make a run at the World Series.
Also, they just saw the New York Yankees acquire Juan Soto from the San Diego Padres.
It is within the realm of possibility that four AL East teams make the playoffs.
Last season, three AL East teams made the playoffs.
Boston looks to be the worst of the five teams in the division.
So they need to make an impact move if they hope to find themselves back in the playoff discussion.
