3 Reasons Dallas Mavericks Should Not Hire Jason Kidd

The Dallas Mavericks have made their decision for a new head coach.

Their new head coach will be Hall of Famer Jason Kidd.

Kidd was a former player for the Mavericks for four seasons.

He was a part of that championship team back in 2011.

Kidd was one of the best point guards of his generation, leading the New Jersey Nets to two straight Finals appearances.

A player of his caliber should make a great hire.

However, Kidd should not be the Mavericks head coach.

There are a few reasons why Kidd was not the right man for the coaching vacancy.

3. His Record

This is not Kidd’s first head coaching job in the NBA.

In fact, this will be his third.

Despite having multiple stints as a head coach, he holds a below .500 record.

Kidd is a very average head coach with only one playoff series win.

For him to be on his third try is questionable for someone with a mediocre record.

Kidd had good teams as well.

He was supposed to be the man at the helm for a strong Brooklyn Nets team.

He had a young Giannis Antetokounmpo with the Milwaukee Bucks, but couldn’t win a series.

There is no reason for Kidd to be a head coach after failing in two other spots.

2. There Were Better Options

If Kidd was one of the few options for a head coaching position then that would be fair.

However, that is not the case as there were several other candidates for the job.

Starting with someone in their own backyard in Jamahl Mosley.

He is an assistant coach on the team and has a great relationship with Luka Doncic.

Then there are other assistants such as Becky Hammon or Sam Cassell, both of whom are respected assistants and deserve a chance at being a head coach somewhere.

Kidd is somewhat respected, but not as much as the above candidates.

They could have gone in multiple directions, but ended up here with Kidd.

1. His Past Is Troublesome

To say that Kidd has a tumultuous past might be an understatement.

His time in both organizations when he was a head coach ended in turmoil.

He tried to overtake then GM Billy King in Brooklyn to take his job along with being the head coach.

That didn’t work out and he decided to go to Milwaukee and become the Bucks head coach.

The only problem was that the Bucks had a head coach at the time.

An unspoken rule around head coaches in the NBA is that you shouldn’t take someone’s job.

However, Kidd did just that.

Throughout his tenure there, he began to burn bridges with the organization.

The same happened throughout his playing career as well.

Also, the worst part of his past is his domestic abuse charges back in 2001.

The Mavericks were recently in trouble with sexual harassment accusations throughout the organization, along with domestic abuse accusations as well.

Three years ago, Mark Cuban offered an apology for the toxic workplace he said he wasn’t aware of. Now he plans to hire … Jason Kidd? https://t.co/mMjGZHEENM

Their owner, Mark Cuban, came out in tears to say that he had no knowledge of this and wanted to clean house.

Three years later and Kidd, with his past, is the head coach of the Mavericks.
