After some trade speculations, new Las Vegas Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels decided to stick with Derek Carr at quarterback.
There’s no guarantee that they would get a play-caller of the same level if they dealt the Fresno State alum away.
Carr had a solid 2021 season, finishing with 4,804 yards and 23 touchdowns.
More importantly, he helped lead the Raiders to a postseason appearance under interim head coach Rich Bisaccia.
Instead of trading away Carr, the team improved the targets around him by signing Brandon Bolden and trading for Davante Adams.
But while they acquired some players, the Raiders must also address some roster holes, as NFL Network’s James Palmer revealed.
With the departure of Marcus Mariota, former #saints QB Trevor Siemian is visiting the #raiders today per source.

Palmer said, “With the departure of Marcus Mariota, former #saints QB Trevor Siemian is visiting the #raiders today per source.”
Mariota joined the Atlanta Falcons on a two-year deal worth up to $18.75 million.
With him gone, Siemian is their top target as Carr’s backup.
Raiders fans hope that Siemian won’t ever leave the bench unless the game’s outcome is already settled.
They don’t want a repeat of what happened with the New Orleans Saints last season.
Siemian Sank The Saints
Siemian took over Jameis Winston when he suffered a torn ACL.
Back then, the Saints had a 5-2 record and were competing for a playoff spot.
It’s mind-boggling that head coach Sean Payton turned to Siemian even if he already had modest success with Taysom Hill.
With Siemian under center, the Saints lost four straight games.
The situation might be different if Winston continued playing or Hill took over earlier.
They could have won more games to improve their postseason hopes.
Instead, the Saints snapped their four-season playoff streak by ending at 9-8.
