Despite only starting a total of 41 games during his entire pro career, veteran quarterback Brian Hoyer has managed to remain in the NFL ever since he was first signed by the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2009.
However, Hoyer’s long run in the league could be coming to a close in the very near future.
On Friday, the Las Vegas Raiders reportedly made the decision to release Hoyer, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Hoyer joined the Raiders last April as someone who was familiar with the offense ran by former Las Vegas head coach Josh McDaniels.
But with McDaniels no longer the head coach, the team clearly felt there was no need to keep Hoyer around for another season.
Following this reported decision and Jimmy Garoppolo’s expected departure, the only quarterbacks who are currently under contract through the 2024 season for Las Vegas are Aidan O’Connell and Anthony Brown.
O’Connell started 10 games for the Raiders last season, and Brown has only appeared in a total of two games since he entered the NFL in 2022 as an undrafted free agent with the Baltimore Ravens.
So, what are Las Vegas’ plans for the quarterback position this offseason?
Are they going to stick with O’Connell for another year and worry about finding a more reliable starter for the position in 2025, or will they look to add someone new to the mix in free agency or the NFL Draft this year?
At the very least, they need to probably add a better backup if they want to continue with O’Connell as their starter for next season.
