For years, the Denver Broncos struggled to find Peyton Manning’s successor.
Ironically, John Elway was one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play, but he wasn’t proficient when it came to evaluating the position as an executive.
But now, Bo Nix may be the answer to their prayers.
Manning recently praised the second-year QB for focusing on all the correct things.
“Bo is made of the right stuff. He’s a little bit older, carries himself the right way. And all of it should help as he moves forward in his career,” Manning said. “I am just happy that Bo is the established starter. For a number of years, they had quarterback competitions. That’s hard on the receivers, the coaches, the play-caller, and the quarterback. Now, they’ve got their guy.”
Nix wasn’t always a highly touted prospect.
He had some struggles in college, some of which were because of his on-field decision-making.
That made him a polarizing prospect, with some analysts doubting he would ever be an NFL starter.
Clearly, staying in college a little longer helped his cause.
He’s more mature, has a great understanding of offensive concepts, and has seen extensive defensive coverages throughout the years.
The No. 12 overall pick from the 2025 NFL Draft also looks like a seamless fit for head coach Sean Payton’s offense.
Starting him from Week 1 last season, the Broncos took things slowly but steadily, giving him a longer leash and more freedom as the year went on, and he paid back that confidence.
Nix would’ve been an easy choice for Offensive Rookie of the Year if it weren’t for Washington Commanders star Jayden Daniels, but his numbers weren’t that far behind.
The 25-year-old also rarely made the same mistake twice and didn’t look like most rookies.
Nix might not be the flashiest player, but he’s just what the Broncos have been craving for a very long time.
