You may argue that the Kansas City Chiefs were never actually underdogs this season, and that would be fine.
You’re never truly an underdog when you have Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce wreaking havoc, and an elite coaching staff featuring Andy Reid, Eric Bieniemy, and Steve Spagnuolo.
Even so, the Chiefs entered the season with plenty of new faces, and not many teams are able to just plug guys in and be as competitive — or even better — right away.
That’s why NFL analyst Peter Schrager tipped his hat off to Chiefs’ GM Brett Veach, showering him with praise for how he was able to build a Super Bowl-winning team in the offseason:
“I’m still amazed at what GM Brett Veach was able to do with this Chiefs roster,” Schrager said. “24 of 53 players on that field celebrating Sunday were not on the field when they lost to the Bengals in the AFC Championship Game last year. He’s the maestro of this symphony.”

Nearly half of the Chiefs roster wasn’t even on the team a year ago, and the fact that he managed to stay competitive without having to spend the big bucks is even more remarkable.
The Chiefs were in a tough spot, salary cap-wise, which forced them to part ways with superstar WR Tyreek Hill.
There, multiple talking heads and rival fans claimed that there was no way they could replace his production and predicted a dip in Mahomes’ numbers.
Not only did Patrick respond with an MVP season, but he also capped the year off with another Vince Lombardi trophy and Super Bowl MVP award.
As for the Chiefs, it’s evident that they’ll be the team to beat until proven otherwise, especially with so many team-friendly deals and rookies ready to defend their crown next season.
