Russell Wilson’s first season with the Denver Broncos went about as poorly as anyone could have possibly imagined as he and the team finished with a dismal 5-12 record during the 2022 campaign.
The Broncos traded a haul of assets to acquire Wilson from the Seattle Seahawks, but the Super Bowl champion looked like a shell of himself operating under former Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett.
In order to remedy the situation, Denver went out and brought in Sean Payton to turn around the franchise and build Wilson back up into the star that he used to be.
Payton is widely regarded as one of the best offensive minds in the NFL and his experience and status should give Broncos fans optimism that they can compete next season.
While some analysts would understandably be weary of Wilson making such a drastic comeback, people like Peter King believe he has it in him still via an appearance on the Rich Eisen Show.
“I will be surprised if Russell Wilson doesn’t have a significant comeback,” King said.

Payton spent time away from coaching in order to regroup and evaluate his options and it’s clear that one of the primary reasons he came to the Broncos was to coach Wilson.
Wilson dealt with a few injuries last season that seemed to affect his performance, but there were several games where he simply looked like a shell of himself.
However, the hope is that Payton is able to build an offense that’s more tailored to Wilson’s skillset.
Denver’s got an uphill climb in the AFC West, but if Payton can get Wilson back to his star level then the sky is the limit for the team.
