This week, MLB insider Ken Rosenthal reported that New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso was close to being traded to the Milwaukee Brewers prior to the deadline.
Alonso will be a free agent after the 2024 season, but it would have taken a haul to get the Mets to trade him.
He is one of the premier power hitters in baseball, and the Brewers have lacked game-changing power for a while.
Still, the Mets did not make the deal and Alonso is still with the team.
Whether or not the front office considers him an untouchable piece of the future remains to be seen, but as of Wednesday afternoon, Alonso remains a Met and a valuable middle-of-the-order producer.
What does the player think about the trade rumors?
He spoke with SNY about them.
“Pete Alonso was asked about reports of the Brewers talking to the Mets about trading for him: ‘I don’t know what the future holds, but right now, I’m a Met and I love being a Met. I take in putting on the jersey every day and representing the city of New York,'” SNY tweeted, quoting the slugger.

Alonso has proven time and time again that he loves being a Met.
It’s not just words: he gets involved in the community, he represents the team in midseason activities such as the Home Run Derby, and he proudly wears the uniform.
He understands baseball is a business, but if it was exclusively up to him, New York is where he wants to be.
If the Mets want him around, they have the financial muscle to work out a deal.
He is a career .878 OPS player with 185 home runs in five seasons, with one of them cut short because of COVID-19.
This year, he is just shy of 40 home runs, as he has 39 and 95 RBI.
He remains productive and is just 28.
Will he be a Met for life?
